Virat showed his batting prowess against Sri Lanka in the Commonwealth Bank series when Kohli scored 86 ball 133 that helped them chase down 341 runs with 80 balls to spare.

‘’I think when you come to international cricket everyone has doubts in themselves how to build their career, how to go up ahead. For me, I was out of the team for some time after playing one series. I had a comeback opportunity through the 2009 Champions Trophy. There I played well in two-three matches. I was a man of the match in one match. From there the confidence started to build,’’ Kohli told Tamim Iqbal in a live talk show on Monday.

‘’But when I got my first century against Sri Lanka in one-day international cricket and from there I started to feel that I can do this for a long time, I can play long for India team because when you come and perform in the number three position as a youngster in a pressure match, chasing situation can bring changes in your mindset,’’ he said adding that to put you need preparation.

But to put on that performance you need to have a preparation, need to have a mindset that though I'm going to the match as a youngster, even when a youngster in our team goes to play in the match I tell them that it doesn't matter if the opposition player has played 150 or 200 matches, if your mindset is good on that day then you can perform better than him. You can win the match whether it's your second or third match, it doesn't matter. This is what I always tried to think,’’ he said.

‘’When a more experienced player got out I didn't think like how can I survive rather than I used to see that as an opportunity, like if he wasn't able to do that and if I had that confidence then I can do it. So I think having confidence in your own ability is very important and you can see every situation in a different way. If others can't see that positively and but you can then your performance will be different, you can win the match. This is what I practiced on a regular basis. If your attitude is good towards the game then game will give you the result. So, I had a simple process. I'll go and try to win the match for the team. My aim has always been to win the match for the team,’ he concluded.
