Bangladesh's new pace bowling coach Ottis Gibson said on Saturday that his pacers bowled well in patches despite lacking pace and now he is taking his time before coming out with a plan of action for them.

Gibson, who replaced Charl Langeveldt, joined Bangladesh on a two-year contract during the Test series against Pakistan. On his first assignment he saw his charges struggling against the hosts at Rawalpindi, with Pakistan in a commanding position by taking a 109-run lead.

"We bowled well in patches but perhaps didn't build pressures for long enough and therefore we are behind obviously in the game but we still have three days to go. And still (there is) an opportunity tomorrow to come back and learn a lesson from today. We have to be a lot more consistent and perhaps when we are not creating too many chances, then we have to take the chances that we create. We got a few early wickets which encouraged us but after that early wicket, we did not build on that pressure that we created,’’Gibson told reporters after the second day's play.

"I am having to sit and watch them at the moment and understand what they are capable of doing before I jump in and start to change things. I am just having a good look at them and but there is lots of encouragement," "We got three good seamers but there is obviously lots of work to do. I think there is enough talent but I think the guys are short of pace, and most of our guys bowl between 130-140," he said. "Conditions play a big part in the psyche of fast bowlers and these guys grew up bowling on flat pitches in Bangladesh.

"We are trying to encourage them, even if we can take these guys outside of Bangladesh for camps, they can see the balls flying through like everywhere else in the world. I think you have seen today, we have got the ball moving. That's the one skill we have. But we are just lacking a little bit of pace and physicality and that's a genetic thing. They cannot do anything about that. But if the guy can bowl 130, and he has the skills like we saw today from some of our bowlers then okay,'' he said.

Gibson, the former head coach of South Africa, added that he believes the bowlers will learn from their mistakes and will try to make the most with the ball which will be relatively new tomorrow.

"The ball is four- six overs old I think. Clearly today our fast bowlers bowled a lot of overs today, tonight we have to recover very well and come up to the belief that early in the morning where there is still some moisture in the pitch or whatever in the first hour, and if we bowl better in first hour, then there is a chance,'' he concluded.
