New Zealand Cricket Board has decided to retire the jersey number of the players who have played over 200 ODI's for the Kiwis. This news comes after New Zealand revealed the Test jersey numbers of its players ahead of the two matches against Sri Lanka. They have also tweeted this on their official Twitter account BlackCaps.
"Players that represent New Zealand in 200 ODIs have their shirt number retired. Daniel Vettori who wore number 11 has played the most ODIs for the BLACKCAPS with 291," BlackCaps tweeted.
There are seven New Zealand players who have played more than 200 ODI's for New Zealand. Former New Zealand captain and current Bangladesh spin coach Daniel Vettori has played the most 291 ODI matches for New Zealand. Stephen Fleming played the second-most 279 matches for the Kiwis, Brendon Mccullum is third with 260 matches. Chris Harris, Ros Taylor, Nathan Astle and Chris Cairns have also played more than 200 matches for New Zealand.
So, as a symbol of paying respect to the players who have represented the Blackcaps over 200 matches, the New Zealand Cricket Board has decided to never use their jersey number even again.
