Australian batsman Steve Smith said he didn’t know that he is going to play cricket ever again. After the ball-tampering incident in South Africa, Smith played his Test after 16 months. He made an outstanding comeback in Test cricket with a century against England in the first Test of Ashes. He fought alone for Australia, scoring 144 runs and took Australia to a respectable total of 284.

He dominated the English bowlers while the other Australian batsman couldn't. Smith was banned from playing cricket also he struggled with injuries. For these, he lost his love for cricket but he is now proud to wear the baggy green cap once again.

"There were times throughout the last 15 months where I didn't know if I was ever going to play cricket again. l lost a bit of love for it at one point, particularly when I had my elbow operation, and it was really bizarre, it was the day when I got my brace off my elbow I found my love for it again. I don't know what it was, it was like a trigger to go again, I want to play, I want to go out and play for Australia and I guess make people proud and just do what I love doing," Smith said at the press conference after scoring 144.

"I've never sort of had those feelings ever before where I didn't have a great love for the game and it was there for a little while. Fortunately, that love's come back and I'm really grateful to be in this position now, playing for Australia again and doing what I love," Smith added.

Smith made a comeback to the Australian side with the World Cup. He had a good World Cup too, scored 379 runs in 10 matches. Now, he is contributing in the red ball cricket too.
