Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan believes opener Tamim Iqbal needs a good rest to make him mentally charged up to take the pressure of International cricket.

Tamim has been going through poor patch with batting since the World Cup and the recent Sri Lanka series was a disaster for him as he scored just 21 runs in three match.

“A player can go through such bad time in his career [which is very normal].” Shakib said here on Thursday.

“What I think is that he needs a good rest, to recover, to be freshened up and make a strong comeback. I am sure he will do this,” he added.

Tamim scored just 21 runs in the three-match series against Sri Lanka while he was given greater reasonability to lead the side exemplary as he was appointed captain in the injury-forced absence of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.

When Tamim failed totally with willow, all of the players, apart from Mushfiqur Rahim and Shafiul Islam also tasted a bad form in a series which was important for them following an ordinary World Cup outing.

To be precious, Bangladesh’s target was to win their first bilateral series in Sri Lanka as they believed they are now better side than the Lankans.

But the belief got a huge blow, something which made Tamim outright disappointed apart from his personal failure.

In the wake of situation Tamim also considered rest from cricket before Shakib suggesting him.

“There are a lot of negatives, starting from myself to the team. We have to hold it tight and come back strong. From day one I've been saying responsibility is key,” Tamim said after the match.

“I've played for 12 years, others have also played for a long-long time. It’s disappointing that we aren't taking responsibility when the team needs us. We need to think and come back strong. I just let myself down, starting from the World Cup. It's not that I didn't try. I tried my best, probably I wasn't good enough. I need to go back, reflect, work on my weaknesses and come back strong.”
