West Indies spinner Sunil Narine and all-rounder Keiron Pollard have returned to the fold for the first two T20 matches against India in August.

"We felt that players like Narine and Pollard, who have played well in T20 leagues around the World, once they are fit and mentally ready to play, we must give them the opportunity to represent the West Indies again," interim chairman of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Selection Panel, Robert Haynes, said in an official statement.

Narine played his last T20 for West Indies back in 2017 and Pollard in 2018. These two were also out of the World Cup squad of the West Indies.

Andre Russell has also been included in the squad, but he will undergo a fitness test before taking part in the T20. Russell suffered a knee injury that cut short his World Cup run.

The team will be led by Carlos Brathwaite and left-handed opener John Campbell. Brathwaite will replace Jason Holder as the T20 captain of the West Indies. Holder has also been left out of the West Indies squad against India.

Haynes said they are looking for a perfect combination for the team which will benefit them in the upcoming T20 World Cup [2020] in Australia. West Indies are the current T20 World Cup Champion and the right combination and formula is very necessary to defend the title he believes.

"It's not just about the present - the India Tour of the West Indies - but we are also looking at the T20 World Cup coming up next year and it is important that we find the right combination of players and the right formula for defending our title," He added.

West Indies squad for first two T20's against India: John Campbell, Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicolas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, Rovman Powell, Carlos Brathwaite (c), Keemo Paul, Sunil Narine, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas, Anthony Bramble, Andre Russell, Khary Pierre.

The three-match T20 series will be played in Florida starting on August 3.
