Shikhar Dhawan ruled out for three weeks

India received a huge blow after their inform opener Shikar Dhawan was ruled out of the World Cup for three weeks due to a finger injury.


As Dhawan hinted to get back in form with a scintillating century against Australia, it came as a shocker for the Indian fans.


India have played just two matches so far in this World Cup and won both in dominating fashion. As he ruled out of three weeks its meant he is set to miss India’s three matches against New Zealand and Pakistan.  Lokesh Rahul is believed to replace him at the top of the batting order.

Shikhar Dhawan got injured by Australia pacer Pat Cummins bounce while on 24 during the course of his match-winning 109 ball-117 runs knock. He received treatment in the ground and continued playing but the discomfort of pain was clear. Dhawan’s century is key in helping India accumulate a mammoth total of 350 runs. This was enough to beat Australia.


Dhawan has the knack of playing well in the global tournament and he was the highest scorer for India in 2015 World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy in England in 2017.


However, after batting Dhawan didn’t come on to the field. Ravindra Jadeja fielded in that match instead of Dhawan. Then, everyone realized that Dhawan has got hurt seriously.


After the match, Dhawan went through a scan and a fracture was found in his finger. On Tuesday Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI) confirmed that Shikhar Dhawan is ruled out of the World Cup for three weeks.



According to sources Rishabh Pant is expected to join the team soon.
