Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir’s farewell game ended in a draw despite his team, Delhi, being very close to the victory. Bad light forced a premature end to the final day’s play, as only 20 overs were bowled in the evening session of the match.

Gambhir’s score of 112 runs powered Delhi to a 433-run total in the first innings, earning them a 43-run lead over Andhra, who posted 390 runs after batting first, courtesy a 187-run knock from Ricky Bhui.

With Delhi finishing their first innings on the fourth day, the match was likely to end in a tame draw until their inspired bowling attack saw Andhra splutter to 130 all-out, setting an 88-run target for the opponents.

Delhi were up for a quick run chase and made 41 runs for the loss of two wickets in the five overs. The umpire then decided to call it a day as Gambhir did not get to bat, after deciding not to open the second innings for Delhi.

Gambhir announced his retirement from professional cricket ahead of the match against Andhra. He finishes his career with 15,153 first-class runs in 198 matches, which include 43 hundreds. He also has 10,077 runs to his name in 299 List A matches.

The southpaw led Kolkata Knight Rider to two IPL triumphs and has made 6402 runs in T20 cricket.

Gambhir is one of the 13 batsmen who have scored over 10,000 international runs for India. He was also the highest-scorer in the final matches for India when they won the ICC World T20 in 2007 and the ICC World Cup in 2011.
