Shaw likely to be available for selection before Boxing Day Test

Prithvi Shaw might return to the squad for the Boxing Day Test against Australia in Melbourne, India head coach Ravi Shatri confirmed on Wednesday (December 5). A decision will be taken regarding his availability for selection, before the second Test in Perth.
The young batsman was expected to open for the side in the first Test but injured his left ankle while attempting a catch on the deep-mid wicket boundary during a practice match against CA XI last week, where he scored a fine 66 in the first innings.
“It was heartbreaking to see him go down the way he did but the good thing is he is recovering well. He has started walking, may be if we can get him running by the weekend, that will really be a good sign,” Shastri reportedly said.
“With youth by his side, he might recover quickly, we will take a call as we go close to Perth,” he added.
India have announced their 12-man squad for the opening Test in Adelaide, with Rohit Sharma and Hanuma Vihari in contention for a place in the playing eleven.
Australia, on the other hand, named uncapped Macus Harris in their playing eleven while Mitchell Marsh and Peter Siddle have been dropped. Peter Handscomb, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood have also returned to the XI.
