West Indies batsman Shai Hope carefully avoided the revenge factor after being whitewashed at the hands of Bangladesh in Test series but said they had no lack of motivation to hit back in the ODI series.

These days the myth for West Indies is: The shorter the format is, the better the West Indies side is. But that did not transpire preciously during Bangladesh’s tour in Caribbean Island in last July. Bangladesh recovered from the humiliation of Test series to win the ODI and T20 series—both by 2-1.

West Indies got back what they gave Bangladesh in the Test series—being whitewashed with sheer humiliation. While Bangladesh took the revenge of what they tasted in Test series in Caribbean Island, time is ripe for West Indies to give it back as the three-match ODI series starts on December 9.

But revenge is what is not in the mind of Shai Hope—at least if his version is taken into the consideration.

As West Indies formally prepares for the ODI series after the drubbing in Test series, Shai Hope said on Wednesday, when he was asked about revenge factor: “Most definitely we know that we have to win against any team we come up against. We must put our best foot forward and do the things we know. If we play our best cricket, we know we will come up victorious.”

Following their ODI series loss to Bangladesh at home, West Indies also lost the ODI series in India but not before putting up a huge fight and scared a team like India, who has been a dominant force at their home ground.

Such was their performance in India that nobody dares to write them off against Bangladesh. There was enough criticism back in West Indies to give Bangladesh a pitch to their likings—a slow and dry pitch—despite being a host. It was considered as one of the main reasons to loss the ODI series to Bangladesh.

But West Indies are sure that Bangladesh wouldn’t do that luxury but still Shai Hope brimmed with confidence, specially for their recent performance against India. “The team has been gelling quite well, since we have also played few games in India.

We have to make sure to get best preparation possible in the game tomorrow, and leading up to the first ODI. We are ready for it.”

“Consistency is the key. We need to put our hands up and put some big targets on the board, and make sure the bowlers have something to bowl at. The wickets may be a bit different here in Bangladesh, but the same things apply. We need to maximize the entire innings rather than giving the bowlers something to do as batters.
