Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Daredevils has been renamed as Delhi Capitals ahead of the 12th edition of the tournament. The announcement was made by owners GMR Group and JSW Sports at a function in Delhi.
GMR group was the sole owner of the team for nearly eleven years, before entering a 50-50 partnership with JSW Sports recently.

“I can't wait to get started. This team has a promising core and loves the game as much as every cricketing fanatic does,” said Mohammad Kaif, Delhi’s assistant coach.
JSW Sports’ director Parth Jindal said: “Our supporting staff has a knack of picking raw talent and molding them. Sandeep Lamichhane is a fine example of that. This season we have Kaif too who has been a natural talent scout too in this country. Shikhar Dhawan is a proven performer in IPL and he adds the perfect experience to the motivated young core of ours.”
Delhi, one of the three teams that haven’t won the IPL title, finished at the bottom of the table last season.
With the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, Kagiso Rabada, and Trent Boult in the fold, the Delhi-based franchise looks set for the new challenges ahead. They also traded three players to Sunrisers Hyderabad in exchange for three players.
