||Desk Report||

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Shakib was instrumental with his all-round proficiency in helping the team reach the final last season. He took 14 wickets in 17 matches and scored 239 runs at 21.67.

Hyderabad have retained a total of 20 players, including Abhishek Sharma, Shahbaz Nadeem, and Vijay Sharma whom they signed in a swap deal for Shikhar Dhawan with Delhi Daredevils.

The likes of Kane Williamson, David Warner, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Billy Stanlake, Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan, and Siddharth Kaul are among the retained players.

On the other hand, Alex Hales, Carlos Brathwaite, Chris Jordan, and Wriddhiman Saha have been named among the nine released cricketers (including Dhawan).

Mumbai Indians, the three-time IPL champions, have retained 18 players and released 10 ahead of the next season.

In order to counterbalance the purchase of Quinton de Kock from Royal Challenger Bangalore, Mumbai had confirmed the release of Mustafizur and Sri Lanka spinner Akila Dananjaya last month. They have also released South Africa’s JP Duminy and Australia pacer Pat Cummins.

Mustafizur was not very impressive during his lone season with the Mumbai Indians this year. The Rohit Sharma-led team failed to make it to the playoffs in the same season.

The pacer took seven wickets in seven matches for Mumbai at an average of 32.85 and was also quite expensive with an economy rate of 8.36.

Mumbai’s core team, which consists of players like Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, and Kieron Pollard, have been retained.
