Zimbabwe fielding coach Shepherd Makunura urged their batsmen to learn from the innings of Mushfiqur Rahim as to how to apply them in the pitch of Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, which is renowned for its unpredictability.
Mushfiqur slowly but confidently batted Zimbabwe out of the game, by hitting an unbeaten 219, the highest Test innings by a Bangladeshi batsman.
“He (Mushfiqur) batted quite well. Our batters can learn a thing or two from him, from how we applied himself on that pitch. Earlier on, especially in the first session, the ball did quite a bit, but he batted quite well,” said Makunura.

The visitors’ fielding coach heaped praise on Mehidy Hasan Miraj for playing a second fiddle to Mushfiqur nicely and shared a partnership that actually was a big blow for Zimbabwe on day two of the final Test.
“The two batted well. Coming in to a set batter like Mushfiqur made it a little easier for him, and the stage was set for a good partnership. They did bat quite well, the two of them,” he added.
But he refused to give up the hopes so easily, stating that Zimbabwe would come hard on day three to leave the game in parity.
“I think the game is still evenly poised, although Bangladesh batted quite well. It’s all going to depend on how well we bat tomorrow, especially the first session. If we can negotiate the first session, we can make life a little easier for ourselves. It’s going to take a lot of batting for us.”
He also gave the update on fast bowler Tendai Chatara.
“He’s one of our strike bowlers. He’s got a bit of a tear in his quad. He’s getting an assessment tonight, so by tonight we’ll know what the [extent of] the damage is. Obviously in such a state, you wouldn’t want to lose one of your strike bowlers.”
