Pakistan opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad could receive a six-month ban from the Pakistan Cricket Board [PCB] for failing a dope test, according to recent reports. The test was conducted during Pakistan Cup, the country’s domestic List A tournament, in May.
The result was confirmed in June, after the batsman played two T20Is against Scotland. Shehzad was provisionally suspended and charged with the violation of anti-doping regulations following the confirmation of the test result. He had until July 18 to challenge the test report and decided not to do so.

PCB will decide the penalty for his act according to World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules. The board is likely to return a verdict within a day or two.
Shehzad was tested positive for Marijuana, a banned substance. The punishment can be increased to two years if the offence is committed for a second time, while a third offence could result in the cricketer getting life banned.
The offence had dire consequences as Shehzad was excluded from Pakistan's ICC World Cup 2019 training plan and lost his central contract. He was also sacked as captain of Habib Bank Limited team ahead of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.
