The Kiwis have announced that Gary Stead is going to take over the reins of the head coach of the New Zealand in a contract that runs for two years. Stead will take over from Mike Hesson, who decided to resign from his post in June earlier this year.

Stead, who will start his work from September, played in five Tests for his nation and also has some coaching experience as it was under his tutelage that the New Zealand women’s team reached the final of the World Cup in 2009.

He also led Canterbury to three Plunkett Shield titles.

Speaking after his appointment, he stated that his goal is to continue New Zealand’s good form in the international arena while also finding ways to improve the team.

"It's a matter of helping maintain New Zealand's strong form on the international scene, but also respecting what's happened over the past four or five years by continuing to push for improvement," he said about his plans ahead.

He then revealed his honour of being a part of such a prestigious group led by the astute Kane Williamson.

"This is a well-established and high-performing Black Caps side with an excellent captain in Kane Williamson, and a real desire to win series and titles. It's an honour and a privilege to be part of that, and I can't wait to get started."

Stead’s first challenge with the team will be their clash against Pakistan on October in UAE.
