India succumb to England, suffer embarrassing defeat at Lords

In a test match that was dominated by weather disruptions, the Indian cricket team’s insipid performance meant that they lost the second Test of the five-match series. The Virat Kohli led team were bowled out for 107 runs in the first innings, and they followed it up with an uninspiring display with the ball too.
The English lower order dismantled the Indian bowling as the hosts took an excellent lead of 289 runs in the first innings, and that further crushed any hopes of a remarkable comeback from the visitors. Murali Vijay departed for a duck in both innings, and the rest of the top order failed to implement themselves according to the demands of the situation for the second time in the match.
James Anderson scalped four wickets in the second innings, after having already grabbed a fifer in the first innings. Stuart Broad dismissed four batsmen too, as Ravichandran Ashwin top-scored for India with an unbeaten knock of 33 runs. Virat Kohli was dismissed for 17 runs, as none of the batsmen showed enough tenacity or intent to bat for a longer stretch of time.

Eventually, the Indian team lost to England by an innings and 159 runs, a thoroughly embarrassing margin for a team that had provided good enough competition in the first Test. This match further signifies the Indian team’s overdependence on Kohli, as the captain’s inability to deliver accordingly in both the innings stimulated India’s loss.
The current state of the team is shambolic, and it would be interesting to observe how they react to this defeat in the third Test match.
