Bangladesh had a dismal start, losing five wickets within the first Powerplay, struggling at 35 for 5 in 8.3 overs. Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim was the only batter to reach double figures early on, contributing a run-a-ball 25. The top-order collapse saw Soumya Sarkar, Shanto, and Mushfiqur Rahim managing just 0, 0, and 5 runs, respectively.

Despite the early setback, Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali put together a remarkable 154-run partnership for the sixth wicket, marking Bangladesh’s highest stand for any wicket against India in ODIs, and helping the Tigers cross the 200-run mark.

"Losing five wickets in the Powerplay cost us the game. Shanto said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

“Impressive batting from Hridoy and Jaker against their spinners. I hope they will continue doing the same. Hridoy and Jaker batted brilliantly but we still made mistakes on the field. Dropped catches and a few runouts missed, the result could have been different," Shanto lauded the efforts from Jaker and Hridoy, who hit his maiden ODI century, while ruing the mistakes made while fielding.

Jaker Ali's costly drop of KL Rahul on nine off a Taskin Ahmed delivery in the 37th over proved to be a turning point. At the time of the dropped catch, India still required 63 runs to reach the 229.

However, Shanto admitted that early wickets could have shifted the momentum, potentially altering the game's outcome.

"If we got wickets with the new ball it could have been different," he said.
