Bangladesh’s form heading into the tournament has been far from ideal. They lost their last two ODI series against Afghanistan and West Indies, raising concerns about their performance in the Champions Trophy.
Former cricketers have not been optimistic about Bangladesh’s chances. In an ICC review, Ricky Ponting stated that Afghanistan is ahead of Bangladesh in the tournament’s pecking order. Similarly, AB de Villiers dismissed Bangladesh’s chances of making it to the knockout stage, citing the stiff competition from India, Pakistan, and New Zealand.
Despite the skepticism, Hales remains hopeful that Bangladesh can stun everyone and reach the final four.

Speaking to Cricfrenzy, Hales praised Bangladesh’s emerging pace attack, particularly from his experience in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

"I saw some impressive pacers in the BPL, and I was amazed. There were also a few powerful hitters. I had a fantastic time in the tournament, and I hope Bangladesh can surprise everyone and reach the semi-finals. My best wishes to them," said Hales.
Bangladesh will begin their Champions Trophy campaign against India on February 20 in Dubai. Hales is eagerly looking forward to the highly anticipated clash.
"The Bangladesh-India match will be a close one. I’m excited to watch it. The conditions here are quite similar to the subcontinent. Wishing both teams the best," he added.
Hales, who played for Rangpur Riders in the last BPL season, had the opportunity to witness the raw pace of Nahid Rana firsthand. The young Bangladeshi pacer has been making a name for himself, frequently troubling batters with his express pace.
"I really enjoyed playing alongside Nahid Rana. He is an outstanding bowler who can clock 150 km/h. I expect him to deliver something special in this tournament. He’s a fantastic young talent," Hales remarked.
With Bangladesh facing a tough challenge in their Champions Trophy journey, it remains to be seen if Shanto’s men can live up to Hales’ expectations and prove their critics wrong.
