Before departing for the tournament, Shanto had boldly stated that Bangladesh were aiming for the title. However, their performance in the warm-up matches was disappointing. Despite that, Shanto remains confident.
“Our team is well-balanced in this format. We believe we can beat any team in this tournament. Every side has the potential to win the title, and I don’t focus too much on the opposition. If we execute our plans well, we can beat any team on any given day,” Shanto said during the pre-match press conference.
India, undoubtedly a stronger side on paper, pose a tough challenge for Bangladesh in their opening match. However, Shanto reminded everyone of their past successes against top teams, including India, Pakistan, and New Zealand.

“All eight teams in the tournament are of high quality. We have good memories against India, Pakistan, and New Zealand. In recent times, we have won quite a few matches against them. We had a great series against India at home in 2022, but that is in the past now. If we play well and execute our plans tomorrow, it will be a good match,” Shanto added.
With Bangladesh aiming for a strong start, their performance against India could set the tone for their Champions Trophy campaign.
