Top 5 run-getters for Bangladesh in 2017

As Bangladesh have no matches left in any format of the game
this year, the performance of the players in 2017 can be adjudicated finally.
The Tigers started their journey of 2017, away from home,
with a defeat against New Zealand in the first match of the bilateral T20
series which they had eventually lost 3-0. That was followed by another
whitewash in the Test series against the same opponent.
Later, in their tour of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh defeated the
Lankan team for the first time in a Test match; that too in their own backyard.
The Red & Green had drawn level in every series of all three formats.
Then came the big occasion—ICC Champions Trophy 2017, where
Bangladesh qualified for the semi-finals of any major event organized by the
ICC for the first time. In a group match against New Zealand where the Tigers’
top-order had collapsed early, they managed to secure a win; thanks to the two
centuries from Shakib Al Hasan and Mahamudullah Riad.
Being knocked out by India in the semis after a sweet
revenge against the Black Caps, Bangladesh headed for home to face Australia in a
2-match Test series. The series was drawn and Bangladesh defeated Australia for
the first time in a Test math in the 1st clash.

In an away series against South Africa, Bangladesh suffered
their second whitewash in all three formats in year 2017.
Among the batsmen of the team, Mushfiqur Rahim, despite
being exempted from Test captaincy, was the top-scorer in all three formats
combined. Playing 26 matches, with an average of 45.07, Mushfiqur scored 3
centuries and 7 half-centuries on his way of making 1263 runs. His best notch
of 159 was scored in a losing cause against New Zealand in a Test where Shakib
had scored a national-record-breaking double-ton.
Tamim Iqbal, playing 2 matches less, scored 1231 runs with
an average of 41.03. Besides playing his best knock (in 2017) of 127 runs in
their ODI triumph against Sri Lanka, Tamim scored one more century and 9
fifties.
Shakib Al Hasan is the 3rd most run-scorer for his team this
year. With an average of 36.81, the all-rounder made 1215 runs. He scored 6
fifties and 3 hundreds, two of which came in the victories against Sri
Lanka in the Test and New Zealand in the Champions Trophy.
Despite his lack of consistency, Soumya Sarkar stands 4th in
the list of most run-getters. With an average of 29.96 and 6 half-centuries,
he scored 929 runs from the 26 matches he had played.
Mahmudullah Riyad, with his only century of the year and
also the most needed one against New Zealand, registered a total of 821 runs
throughout 2017. He scored 4 half-centuries and ended the year with an
average of 32.84 being the 5th most run-getter.
