National team batsman Nasir Hossain said with regret that if he could have got the chance to bat in the middle order, the scenario of his career would then have been different right now.

Nasir has been hailed as the finisher of the national team and played at No 6-7-8 position as per the team’s requirements throughout his career.

But he thinks that if he just had the chance to bat in the middle order, he could have scored so many runs in his kitty and his career would then have been longer further.

In a live session program of Cricfrenzy lockdown live through Facebook, Nasir Hossain expressed his thoughts that he has always batted at No 4 in the Premier League but that position was under the control of veteran players like Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan. But if he would get the chance to bat in those positions in place of at No 7-8 position, he would then have scored big runs.

“In the Premier League, I bat at No 4. But I didn’t get that chance in the national team as Mushfiqur Bhai and Shakib Bhai used to bat in that position. So I didn’t even think about batting at No 4 because there was no option. But I think that if I get to bat in a little top order than my career would have been longer right now,” Nasir said.

“I’m saying this because if I had the chance to bat above, I would then have got more time to perform well and score more runs to the hut. I’ve batted at No 6, 7 or even at No 8 position. So, I got fewer balls where I always have nothing much to show off,” he added.

Citing the name of West Indies batting stalwart Andre Russell, he said he is not a player like him that will start hitting big shots from the very first ball.

But he said that he did as much as he could for the team.

“I’m not powerful like Andre Russell. Going to the crease he can play some big shots and score 30 or more from 10 balls. For me, it’s quite difficult to bat in that manner. But I tried my best to do as much as I can for the team from that position,” he added.

Nasir describes it as a T20-like situation, stating that a player like him needs time to get settled in the wicket and go for cracking in the position he played in the national team.

He believes that if he gets the chance to play above and get time to play 15-20 more balls to be settled on the wicket he might also score big for the team.

“I would go to bat at No 7 or 8 position. You all know that you need to face some balls to settle. You’re not a robot that you go and start hitting fours and sixes. There will be eight runs above for you to win most of the time. So, it’s not so easy, rather very difficult,” he said.

“You’ll be successful one day and you’ll not be another day. It’s a 50-50 rate of success. It’s like T20 after I stepped down to bat. The team needs 50 runs in five overs. So, I wouldn’t get time to be settled on the wickets. But if I could have batted in top-order, I could then have played 15-20 balls and get time to settle myself on the wickets and then you make your innings long,” he concluded.
