Former national left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak said on Sunday that the competition at the National Cricket League is quite high shrugging off the label of picnic-cricket attached to it.
According to Razzak the way it is structured only assure that it will grow from strength to strength and he is not sure why there is so much hue and cry regarding the beep test.

‘’I played regularly in the National League in last five years. I think there is more competition than before. Now everyone wants to perform from their individual level. Bowlers taking five-six wickets, batsmen are not satisfied with hundred. They want to make more runs. This [gesture] is good. And this means the event is competitive,’’ said Razzak.
‘’The way it is progressing certainly I cannot say it is bad. We have to make certain changes and that need to be done now and we are passing that time,’’ he said adding that he welcomed the idea of beep test.
‘’Beep test was better than the previous day. I don’t know well about others. But I heard that most of them did well. We were discussing about beep test for last couple of days. I don’t think it is a bad decision. Because when a player comes, especially when they are playing for the national team, they are already fit.
because after entering the national team, you won’t have enough time to bring your fitness back in good shape to play again. So it was good in that sense. I think if we have a plan, the score [of beep test] would be much better. I mean if everyone was informed earlier,’’ he said.
‘’It happened last year and now. It is more organized than last year. Of course it is going good. This is a matter of decision. Now we have many trainers under our cricket board. If they work with all of them, I think some players work [on fitness] on personal level. Like we do. There are some players in every division like this. Even the system is like that than I am sure… because it was discussed before and it has a system… even I did not know. Later I thought it would be better if I follow that. but I don’t think I should not go out of this. They ones who are fit, they will play with full fitness. I think the trainers will understand what benchmark should be set for which players. Because it has happen in the first two years, it will be more organized next year. Like, if I was asked to give 12 in beep test, it would be very tough for me, almost impossible,’’ he added.
‘’Performance is the most important thing. If there are many good performing players, there will be competition. But there has to be a minimum level. You cannot consider worse than that. Maybe they won’t consider, they are so strict about these matters,’’ he concluded.
