National selector Habibul Bashar said on Monday that there is no point making any issue on the new fitness standard set by the Bangladesh Cricket Board as they have decided to introduce a new culture in the domestic cricket.

The debate over new fitness test marking for being included in the National Cricket League (NCL) continued, as the cricketers outside national team remained fazed by it.

The fitness test is normally done through the beep Test which is a multi-stage fitness test used to measure cardiovascular fitness and maximum oxygen uptake. It is commonly used by coaches and trainers to measure athlete fitness.

Bangladesh Cricket Board recently have instructed that cricketers of the 30-member preliminary squad of respective divisions for the upcoming NCL will have to get 11 in the beep test if they want to be included in the 18-member squad that will take part in the NCL.

‘’There is no point making such a hue and cry as we want to set a new culture and standard for the team,’’ Habibul told reporters on Monday.

‘’We want to follow other league as well. Last year it was nine and these years it would be 11 and every professional cricketer should maintain this standard[ fitness wise],’’we can consider the regular performer if they failed to pass the test. We will think about those but we won’t comprise the standard. I will not set any number but we will consider those close to 11,’’ he said.

‘’We have to change our culture,’’ he said.

"We will not comprise on the player's demand. We are trying our best for the players and not tell you about any number,’’ he said.

‘’Personally I believe that fit player performs well in the matches,’’ he said.

Some senior players complained that there is a difference between beep- test fit and match fit, though Habibul disagreed.

‘’There is the difference between match fitness and beep fitnesss.at the same time if u are not beeped fit than the match will go down. After first and second match u fitness will go down if you are not fit enough to earn the required points in beep test,’’ he said.

‘’I do not want to talk about their issue. I want to say we want to change the culture in Bangladesh cricket. I think we have to work on fitness and fielding for the future of Bangladesh cricket,’’ he said.
