Bangladesh women’s cricket team blew away Thailand by 70 runs in the final of the ICC Women’s Twenty20 World Cup Qualifier 2019 to lift their second successive title in the tournament at the Forfarshire Cricket Club in Dundee, Scotland on Saturday.

Sanjida Islam led the charge with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 71 off 60 balls to take Bangladesh to 130-5 in 20 overs before Bangladesh restricted Thailand to 60-7 with measured bowling performances from Shaila Shrmin (2-9) and Nahida AKter (2-17).

Both the sides earlier secured their spot in next year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia after reaching the final of the eight-team tournament.

Batting first, Sanjida and Murshida Khatun (33 off 34 balls) gave Bangladesh a solid start, forming a 68-run opening stand in 10 overs before the latter was bowled by Suleeporn Laomi.

Sanjida, however, remained unfazed as she continued to dominate the Thai bowlers, smashing six fours and three sixes on her way to a fifty, which was Bangladesh’s only in the competition.

Her innings was aided by few small partnerships that guided Bangladesh to a competitive total.

Bangladeshi bowlers didn’t allow Thailand to pose any real threat to chasing down the total, reducing them to 20-4 at the halfway stage of their innings.

Ratanaporn Padunglerd (15 off 14 balls) and Wongpaka Liengprasert (11 off 29 balls) were the only Thai batters to cross the double figure mark as Bangladesh completed a thumping win in the final.
