Bangladesh High Performance Unit coach Simon Helmot believes their forthcoming series against Sri Lanka will provide an opportunity for his players to develop their game and get ready for the national team.

The HP team will take on their Sri Lankan counterparts for a three-match one-day and a two four-day match series, starting from August 19 with the 1st one-dayer at Savar.

Helmot feels that the players needed to continue improving at their individual game and rake in impressive performances for a national call up.

‘‘It is very important for us to keep developing. The great thing to play in an under-23 tournament is to give the players the opportunity to help them get ready to play for the national team,’’ Helmot told reporters at the academy ground in Mirpur.

‘’They [HP players] still need to improve…when they will come up with some numbers they will deserve a chance,’ he said.

‘’Every time we have A team match, HP match, Under-19 match we are preparing a player for the national team. No matter what the competition is. Everything else, training, physical preparation, mental strategy- everything is developing a player for the national team. We want to support the national team as much as we can. We need support Mushy, we need to support Tamim and we need to support Shakib. It will make Bangladesh cricket strong,’’ he said.

‘’It will help Bangladesh win Tests abroad. It will help Bangladesh finish high in the tournaments whether the tournament. Match experiences, skill development, fielding and strength and condition- these are the four things we need to keep improving. That will help Bangladesh,’’ he added.
