Sylhet Sixers confirmed on Friday (October 26) that banned Australia star David Warner will be a part of the team in the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The Sylhet-based franchise have also roped in Nepal spinner Sandeep Lamichhane.

“We believe he is a player of great impact especially when it comes to T20 cricket,” Sixers CEO Yasir Obaid was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz about Warner's signing. “He is a player with wealth of experience when it comes to handling the pressure of Twenty20 cricket and we are excited to have him in our dressing room.”

“I am very excited to let you know that I am part a Sixers. I can't wait to be part of Sylhet Sixers family,” Warner said in a video on Sixers’ official Facebook page.

Sylhet had retained one less player than the predetermined quota as they named Sabbir Rahman, Nasir Hossain, and Sohail Tanvir in the players’ retention list. Sabbir was their icon player last season, but he could not make it to the A+ category – the reintroduced version of icon cricketer – this year.

Sylhet then added Liton Das as their A+ category player. The right-hander played for Comilla Victorians last season, who decided not to retain him as they already have an A+ category player in their captain from the last season – Tamim Iqbal.

Each of the franchises are allowed to include two players in the team from outside the draft. The players’ draft for the upcoming BPL will be held on October 28.
