Rangpur win enthralling battle against Barisal

Unlike the first three round in the National Cricket League, none of the four fourth-round matches ended in stalemate. Rangpur Division won a thriller at home against Barisal Division in their Tier 1 clash.
Barisal needed 159 runs to win with 7 wickets in hand when they started the fourth day’s play. Both Rangpur and Barisal totaled 147 runs in the first innings and Rangpur were all-out for 229 runs in their second innings.
Resuming the game on day-4, Subhasis Roy earned Rangpur a breakthrough – taking his tally of wickets to two I this innings – before Barisal could add any runs to their score of 71/3 from the previous day. Shamsul Islam was out for 9 runs but Al-Amin batted well at the other end and was unfortunate to get run out after picking up a fifty.

Barisal then kept losing wicket at regular intervals until two tailenders –Tanvir Islam and Nuruzzaman – took the team within a touching distance of the target with a 54-run stand. Tanvir was Barisal’s ninth batsman to get out with 7 runs required to win and Nuruzzaman then got dismissed after adding one more run, giving the winning points to the opponents. He played the second-highest individual innings for Barisal, with 46 runs to his name.
Robiul Haque, who too two wickets on the previous day, completed his four-fer in the innings on the last and final day and was awarded the Man of the Match. Sanjit Saha picked up two wickets while Sajedul Islam scalped one.
