The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appointed Azhar Ali, a Bangladesh-born Canadian sports psychologist, to conduct a week-long session ahead of the tour of Zimbabwe, confirmed BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan on Sunday.
The inclusion of a psychologist is nothing new as BCB earlier brought Australia sports psychologist Dr. Phil Jauncey and Azhar Ali for the players on different times.

However, BCB decided to appoint Azhar, who is expected to join on October 17, as the board believed cricketers failed to hold their nerve on crunch situations.
“We have appointed Azhar Ali and he is expected to work for a week. We had appointed him as being Bengali there is hardly much linguistic barrier between him and the players,” Akram told reporters on Sunday.
Earlier, in August, BCB president Nazmul Hasan had said that they are considering appointing a psychologist for players to train them about controlling off-field behavior, during Sabbir’s social-media fracas issue.
“We are thinking if we can appoint a psychologist who can train them in this regard [behavior management],” Nazmul had said.
