The Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan said on Tuesday that election will not have an impact on the upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
There is lot of controversy doing the rounds as far as hosting the BPL is concerned considering it was postponed once already while there is a chance it can have a similar fate due to uncertainty of the national election.
Initially BPL was slated in October but later BCB had to postpone it and rescheduled it in January as they were forced by the security agencies who denied giving them adequate support as they will be busy with the election schedule.
With the election date still not announced and rumors spreading that it can be held in January instead of December, BPL’s fate looked to be in turmoil.

However, Nazmul believes that it will hardly be an issue as he is confident sport is above politics.
“We had a match of BPL in Chittagong and at the same time there was strike but it was called off and that indicates our opposition party carries a sacrificing mentality when it comes to cricket,” Nazmul told reporters at his residence on Tuesday.
“We are getting support of all not only government but also opposition party and that indicates sports is above politics,” he added.
“I think everyone will get the support [from the political parties]. We cannot delay sports for this [election]. There is no reason to push back the dates from 5th [January].
“We will not wait for the election. We were already committed to Zimbabwe-West Indies. In fact, these two series are the reason behind postponing the BPL, not really for the election. It [the BPL] could have taken place in December, but wouldn’t get players then. There are some issues. I do not think I will change [the dates] for the election.
“I think, the date might be changed for one or two days but the elections will not hinder it,” he concluded.
The BPL is expected to start on January 5 next year and the players’ draft is scheduled to take place on October 25.
