Steroid injection might have caused the infection: Nazmul

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan on Tuesday hinted that the pain killer injections that Shakib Al Hasan took to continue playing could be the reason behind the infection on the all-rounder’s left little finger.
There is widespread allegation against Bangladesh's physio Tihan Chandramohan for failing to diagnose the infection of Shakib that has already ruled him out of international cricket for three months.
It was reported that Tihan had sent his reports and X-rays to doctors in Australia and England but despite the swelling couldn't identify the possibility of an infection.
Nazmul said that they are yet to find out the exact reason behind it, but there is a possibility that the steroid Shakib took during the tour of West Indies to relieve pain and be available for the Tigers, can have an effect.
“Maybe he took a pain killer injection in West Indies and that can have a side effect because steroid can play a part if there is any kind of infection,” said Nazmul. “But these are all assumptions and we are hoping to get the report soon then we will understand how it happened.”
Nazmul insisted that there was no negligence from their medical team part as it was hard to diagnose any infection that is incurred inside the skin.
“It’s a bit of mystery to all of us as his condition got into this stage because he didn’t actually get hurt while playing,” said the BCB president. “I spoke with Debashish [BCB chief physician] and asked him that how can there be so much pus in one day. He told me that it was difficult to judge as he was infected inside and not outside.”
