The Bangladesh Cricket Board did not force Shakib Al Hasan to take part in the Asia Cup, confirmed BCB president Nazmul Hassan on Tuesday.
Shakib was forced to withdraw from the Asia Cup 2018 before Bangladesh’ unofficial semi-final against Pakistan, as the pain in his finger became unbearable due to swelling during the tournament.
An emergency procedure was carried out to remove pus from his injured finger upon Shakib’sreturn to Dhaka from the UAE. An infection to his injured little-finger has now ruled the star all-rounder out of action for up to at least three months.

The 31-year-old will have to wait another three weeks for surgery on the finger. The pus extended up to his left wrist, which in turn hindered the predetermined proceedings.
There was a lot of controversies regarding Shakib’s participation in the tournament as firstly he wanted to meet the physician but later changed his stance after Nazmul insisted him to take part in the Asia Cup.
“We did not force him to play and it was his decision [to take part in Asia Cup],” Nazmul told reporters on Tuesday.
“I asked him not to take such a big risk and to go and talk with a doctor. He then said that the physio has told him it won’t be a problem. I asked him whether it can get worse by playing and he said no.
“Later I asked him to talk to a doctor and decide. I received a mail four days after I returned from Hajj where the coach informed me that Shakib will join [the squad] straight from the USA. That is the time when I came to know he will play,” he added.
