Former Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim is not entertaining the idea of skipping the home series against Zimbabwe to get proper rest to recover from the rib fracture.

A part of the think-tank believes it would be wise for Mushfiqur to miss the Zimbabwe-series in order to get proper rest so that he can be available in the upcoming days that his congested with hectic international matches lined up.

“Basically you don’t get a lot of chances to represent your country. So I want to play all the matches [I can], for Bangladesh. Certainly injury is a concern and you have to accept reality,” said Mushfiqur.

“At the moment, as it stands, there won’t be any problem regarding playing competitive cricket and you never know what is in store for you as far as your career in concerned.

“If there is high risk certainly the physio will take the decision, but I always played with some minor niggles throughout my career,” he added.

Mushfiqur added that the only concern for him at present remains in determining whether he will be able to keep the wickets or not.

“My major concern is my wicket-keeping because at the moment I am thinking what will happen if I dive. We will discuss about it with the team management and physio and plan accordingly.

“Naturally [injury] plays at the back of mind. It is not only my rib but two or three of my fingers are broken as well but I am playing with it because if I opt for surgery it will make me lose two to four months and it is always difficult to make a comeback after such gap,” said Mushfiqur.

BCB physician Debashish Chowdhury also looked optimistic about Mushfiqur as his recovery speed is quite satisfactory.

“Mushfiqur batted with this rib trauma for hours so we decided to keep him under rest at the moment,” said Debashish.

“If he feels better or feels no pain than he can join practice in a couple of days,” he added.
