Bangladesh batsman Mushfiqur Rahim said he is confident of playing against Zimbabwe in the upcoming series at home as he is expected to recover thoroughly by then.

Mushfiqur, who sustained a rib fracture during the Asia Cup, is currently going through a rehabilitation program. The diminutive wicket-keeper batsman is expected to start his individual batting session from October 10.

While his other teammates are either enjoying a vacation or taking part in the National Cricket League, Mushfiqur was seen doing running-sessions with weighted sandbags in a bid to take some extra load to prepare physically at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday.

“I am feeling much better now as the pain is getting reduced gradually while I am increasing my workload accordingly.

“Right now I am under a rehabilitation program and hopefully will start my batting within a day or two. As there is no need of surgery hopefully I will recover in time and will be available for the upcoming series,” said Mushfiq.

“Basically you need to give 15 to 20 days for the bone [of the rib] to get fixed or else it is found out that it is placed properly, so I am planning to do a scan on October 15. In the meantime, I will follow the rehabilitation program and see how it goes while by the next few days our camp will start and the physio will arrive then I will decide my next course of action,” he added.

The participation of Mushfiqur remained a major concern for Bangladesh, as they are currently going through severe injury crisis ahead of the home series against Zimbabwe, scheduled to start on October 21.

Zimbabwe will play three ODIs followed by two Test matches and the hosts are desperately looking forward to getting the service of Mushfiqur considering some of their leading cricketers are expected to be sidelined because their respective injuries.

Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is ruled out for three months due to his finger injury which later got infected. Tamim Iqbal is also unlikely to be available before the second Test match against Zimbabwe as the left-hander fractured his left-wrist during the Asia Cup-opener against Sri Lanka.
