Bangladesh former skipper Mushfiqur Rahim said that the win against Pakistan has taken away his pain of missing a ton by just one run in the must-win match of the Asia Cup.

Mushfiqur was caught behind off Shaheen Afridi on 99 and he looked utterly disappointed while returning to the dressing room. However, According to the batsman, he was more disappointed to have missed the opportunity to stay at the crease till the end of the innings.

“To be honest, after winning, I am not hurt anymore. I always believe that the team comes first. This is not just lip service. It comes from my heart,” Mushfiq told the reporters.

“My disappointment was heightened because, as I kept saying after coming into the dressing room, a set batsman should bat at least until the 48th over, because the bowling quality they have even at the death, it is not easy to hit when you are new to the crease.

“We hardly scored 100 runs in the last 20 overs. We scored around 110. So it was obviously disappointing for me. I think the team’s victory is the most important,” said Mushfiqur.

The wicketkeeper-batsman was favored to a great extent by captain Sarfaraz’s perplexing strategy that made sure he did not require to be tested at the initial stage of his innings as the Pakistani skipper removed both his strike bowlers by the ninth over.

The game could have a different look had he persisted with one of those pacers in hunt of a breakthrough while his defensive field setting can also be accounted for letting the pressure slip away from the shoulders of the Tigers. But all in all it does not take away anything from the fact the Mushfiq coped well with the pressure with all the grace and intelligence like the way he has done throughout all the tournaments this year.

Mushfiqur's exceptional 144-run knock in the opening game against Sri Lanka is a prime example of how to soak under heat and humidity where Tamim Iqbal retired hurt early with an injury [and was eventually ruled out], Liton Das was gone for a four-ball duck and Shakib Al Hasan was bowled out without adding anything to the scorecard.

“I think we coped up against the pressure really well in the first part, and scored runs in the second,” said Mushfiqur, regarding the match against Pakistan.
