Sylhet Thunders technical committee chairman Sarowar Imran said on Thursday that though they don’t have big names in their squad but they have the ability to give all the team a run for their money.
‘’We did not want to keep it in low profile. We got seven on the first lottery. There we had two-three choices. And we picked two there. The local players that we have, I don’t think that is a low profile. We are planning to make the best team. If we consider the hundred percent, we wanted local players of 70-75 percent of that. As it depends on the lottery, we called as it came on the lottery,’’ Imran told reporters adding that their only worry is that some of their cricketers won’t be available due to the T-10 league.
‘’And among the foreign players, I would say, Rutherford, Charles- they all are good players. They might not arrive on time because of T-10. That thing creating the problem for us. Even Cotrell will also not be present on time. West Indies have matches (against India). Mohammad Sami is coming in Cotrell’s replacement. So we are trying to bring new players into the team. I hope our team can come back,’’ he said.
‘’Our team is looking like a moderate team. Not underdog. This time, many teams are not looking so strong, except Dhaka. This is a game of ground. T20. Who will perform well in the field, they will win,’’ he said.
‘’Cotrell will become available at the end. Mohammad Sami will come initially. We will see what happens then,’’ he said.
Former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs has been appointed as the head coach of Sylhet Thunder for the upcoming Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Sylhet Thunder have bought a massive change in their team management as the team director announced on Friday that Herschelle Gibbs has been appointed as the head coach. Sylhet Thunder introduced Sarowar Imran as their head coach during the player’s draft but the new development taking place Sylhet Thunders decided to make Sarowar as their mentor and advisor while giving the head coach role to the former South African opener.
Imran said that they are confident with the local cricketer and added that it is too early to say who will do well in BPL as lot will depend on the weather.
‘’It is not only Rony Talukder. We have Saikat, Mithun. They all are good. Mithun scored lots of runs even in the last year for Rangpur. He scored well in every match,’’ said Imran adding that it is too early to predict.
‘’It is hard to say now. We can say after watching the wicket. And then the weather. If it is too cold, the pacer will definitely do well. When we will play in the afternoon, maybe then the spinner will do something. But the colder the weather is, the better the pacers will do,’’ he concluded.
