Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of first Test against Sri Lanka on 31st January. The all-rounder suffered an injury to his left little finger during the final of the tri-nation series against Sri Lanka on Saturday.

The Bangladesh Test captain hurt the base of the fifth finger while fielding against the Lankan team. Although his X-ray report has come clear, the injury required stitches.

BCB's senior physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury reportedly said, “The x-ray did not find any fracture. However, there is subluxation/joint sprain at the base of the little finger on his left hand. He has been assessed by a cosmetic surgeon and necessary repairs have been done.

“The affected finger will have to be immobilized for at least a week before further assessment is made which means he is out of the first Test in Chittagong.”

The 30-year-old made 163 runs in 4 matches at an average of 40.75 and scalped 9 wickets in the group-stage of the series. Shakib remained wicketless in the 5 overs he had bowled before leaving the field due to an injury. Bangladesh are now chasing the target of 222 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium with their most prolific player sidelined.
