On a pace-friendly surface at the Great Barrier Reef Arena, Bangladesh’s batters struggled against Australia’s fast bowlers. Their own pace attack, however, managed to put the hosts under pressure, with Shoriful producing the standout performance.
The left-armer claimed a career-best seven wickets in Australia’s only innings, including his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket, conceding just 48 runs. His remarkable spell has earned him a significant rise in the latest ICC Test bowling rankings.
Shoriful climbed 17 places to a career-best 57th position, while his seven-wicket haul is now the best bowling performance by a Bangladesh pacer in an overseas Test.
He also became the second Bangladesh fast bowler after Hasan Mahmud to take five wickets in a Test in Australia.
Hasan had made a major jump after taking nine wickets in the first Test, but slipped nine places after an underwhelming second match. He is now 47th with 454 rating points. Taskin Ahmed also dropped two places to 51st.
Nahid Rana, who missed the Australia tour through injury, fell two places to 62nd, while Taijul Islam slipped two spots to 13th, remaining Bangladesh’s highest-ranked bowler. Mehidy Hasan Miraz moved up one place to 25th.
Among Bangladesh’s batters, Mushfiqur Rahim climbed one place to 17th, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto remained 20th.
Litton Das endured a difficult tour, being dismissed for a duck in all three of his innings. As a result, he dropped six places to 34th. Mominul Haque also fell five spots to 36th.
Mehidy dropped four places to 63rd, while Jaker Ali slipped five places in the batting rankings.
In the Test all-rounders’ rankings, Mehidy retained his third position, while Taijul climbed two places to 30th.
Shoriful also made the biggest move among Bangladesh’s all-rounders, rising 13 places to 70th.
He scored Bangladesh’s highest individual score in the first innings with 14 and then claimed seven wickets with the ball, completing an impressive all-round contribution despite Bangladesh’s heavy defeat.
