Bangladesh’s batters struggled against the pace attack of Codi Yusuf, Gerald Coetzee and Lungi Ngidi, with Naim Sheikh, Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Afif Hossain among those unable to make a significant impact across the two innings.
Six players have been dropped from the squad that featured in the first match. Shahadat Hossain Dipu, Mahidul Islam Ankon, Zakir Hasan, Anamul Haque, Iqbal Hossain Emon and Kalam Siddiqi Aleen are the players left out.
Meanwhile, seven players have been added to the 14-member squad. Among the notable inclusions is Towhid Hridoy, who made his Test debut for Bangladesh during the recent tour of Zimbabwe.
He is joined by Rejaur Rahman Raja, Jaker Ali Anik, Mushfik Hasan, Nurul Hasan Sohan, leg-spinner Rishad Hossain and pace-bowling all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin.
Naim Sheikh, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Afif Hossain, Parvez Hossain Emon, Hasan Murad, Naim Hasan and Al Fahad have retained their places from the first match.
The second and final four-day game will begin on August 30 in Potchefstroom. Bangladesh will then play a three-match one-day series against South Africa A, with games scheduled for September 6 in Bloemfontein, September 9 in Kimberley and September 12 in Potchefstroom.
