Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has congratulated the Bangladesh cricket team for producing a landmark nine-wicket victory over Australia in the opening Test in Darwin.

The result saw Bangladesh make history by securing their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil, more than two decades after their previous Test appearance in the country.

Bangladesh dominated the contest from the outset, bowling Australia out for 198 before taking a commanding first-innings lead with 426. They then dismissed the hosts for 284 in the second innings and comfortably chased down the 57-run target to complete a memorable victory.

Tarique Rahman was travelling to Kishoreganj when Bangladesh sealed the win. Soon after the match, he connected with the players and Bangladesh Cricket Board president Tamim Iqbal through a video call to personally congratulate them.

During the call, the prime minister praised the players for their resilience, confidence and determination, saying the historic achievement reflected the strength of Bangladesh as a team.

He also extended his congratulations to the coaching staff and everyone associated with the national side, while conveying the pride and joy of the people of Bangladesh.
