Bangladesh needed just 57 runs to complete a historic Test victory after Mehidy Hasan Miraz produced a magnificent all-round performance to put the visitors firmly in control.
Australia were bowled out for 284 in their second innings, leaving Bangladesh a target of 57 runs to win the first Test.
Mehidy was the standout performer with the ball, repeatedly troubling the Australian batters and finishing with crucial wickets. He had also contributed a valuable 65 with the bat in Bangladesh’s first innings.
Cameron Green fought hard to keep Australia in the contest with a fine century, but the hosts could not build the substantial partnerships needed to put Bangladesh under serious pressure.
