Bangladesh hopeful of India series despite uncertainty

According to reports in the Indian media, the BCCI is not currently in a position to make an independent decision on the tour and is expected to consult the Indian government before taking the next step.

Bangladesh’s Youth and Sports Minister Aminul Haque said the ministry is working with the Foreign Ministry to resolve the uncertainty.

“I have already spoken with our Foreign Minister and State Minister. They have also been in contact with the Indian High Commission and India’s Foreign Ministry. We want to resolve this issue quickly.”

Aminul also stressed the importance of cricket in maintaining friendly relations between the two countries.

“I hope we can maintain a friendly relationship with our neighbouring country through sport and preserve our relationship despite the uncertainty that has emerged.”

Aminul said the Foreign Ministry remains optimistic about the tour going ahead.

“Our Foreign Minister is very optimistic. He has already spoken with his Indian counterpart, and we hope the Bangladesh-India series can be played soon so that we can maintain a smooth and friendly relationship through cricket.”

He added that discussions are continuing at the highest level, including a recent meeting between the Indian High Commissioner and Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser.

“We are working on it. The Indian High Commissioner met our Chief Adviser today, and I have also spoken with the Foreign Minister and State Minister. They are very hopeful that the uncertainty surrounding India and Bangladesh, particularly after the last World Cup, can be resolved soon. I am optimistic.”

The scheduled tour consists of three ODIs and three T20Is. The ODIs are set for September 1, 3 and 6, followed by T20Is on September 9, 12 and 13. India are scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on August 28.
