The first batch of the Bangladesh squad departed for Australia on Friday night, while the remaining members are scheduled to leave on Sunday. Speaking before the team's departure, Bashar said the mindset of the current squad is vastly different from the one that toured Australia 23 years ago.
"The challenge existed 23 years ago, and it still exists today. But our objective is different now. Back then, our main goal was simply to survive. This time, we're not going there just to survive, we want to achieve something special," Bashar told reporters at the airport.
Bashar also welcomed the return of Litton Das, who has recovered from a calf injury and was added to the squad just days before the tour.
"Three of our regular players were unavailable—Nahid Rana, Shoriful Islam and Litton Das. We've got Litton back, which is a huge boost. We probably won't have Nahid, and if Shoriful returns, that will strengthen us further. Litton's comeback is definitely a positive sign because it makes our batting stronger."
Bangladesh will be without express pacer Rana for the series after he was ruled out with a Grade 2 side strain, while Shoriful remains doubtful for the opening Test but is targeting a return for the second match.
Most members of the current Bangladesh squad will be touring Australia for the first time, and Bashar believes the opportunity has generated genuine excitement within the dressing room.
"I think everyone is really excited. From the conversations I've had with the players, they all want to do something special here, something they'll remember for the rest of their careers. We know the challenge is enormous because Australia are a very strong side. But everyone wants to achieve something that could become one of the greatest moments of their career. The task is difficult, no doubt, but if we can do it, it will be incredibly rewarding for everyone."
Bangladesh will begin the two-Test series against Australia in Darwin on August 13 before the second and final Test gets underway in Mackay on August 21.
