Tom Latham has been ruled out of New Zealand’s opening T20I against Bangladesh after suffering a toe injury during training.

The Blackcaps captain was struck on his right big toe while batting, resulting in a laceration beneath the toenail.

Team management confirmed that Latham’s condition will be monitored on a match-by-match basis, leaving his availability for the remainder of the series uncertain.

In his absence, Nick Kelly will take over captaincy duties. The Wellington Firebirds batter is set to become New Zealand’s 13th T20I captain.

The injury comes as a setback for the visitors ahead of the series opener, with Bangladesh already carrying momentum from their recent ODI series win.
