Bangladesh’s Ministry of Youth and Sports will brief the ICC after receiving the investigation report into alleged irregularities surrounding last October’s Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election, State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque has confirmed.

Questions over the credibility of the election had surfaced from the very beginning, with several leading clubs pulling out of the process over claims of irregularities.

The election was later held without them, fuelling further controversy. After the change in government, speculation had grown that the process would come under official scrutiny.

That has now materialised, with a five-member investigation committee already submitting its report to the ministry.

According to Aminul, the government has since held an inter-ministerial meeting and will now communicate the findings to the ICC before taking any further steps.

“The investigation committee submitted the report this morning. After receiving it, we immediately held an inter-ministerial meeting. We will inform the ICC about the report first, and only then will we take the next decision, In Shaa Allah,” he told the media.

The matter has become more complicated after former sports adviser Asif Mahmud reportedly did not respond to the committee’s summons for questioning. He has instead raised questions publicly about the investigation's effectiveness, including through multiple social media posts.

Aminul said Asif’s non-participation has been noted in the report and indicated that any official position on the matter would come only after discussions with the ICC.

“The report has already been submitted to us, so naturally his absence is part of that report. I have also seen that he did not appear. We will speak to the ICC first and then inform you about the next decision,” Aminul said.

Asked about Asif’s social media comments, the sports adviser avoided engaging directly.

“I don’t know anything about that. On Facebook, we see both truth and falsehood. So whether he said something true or false, I’ll leave that to you to verify,” he added.

The submission of the report could prove significant for the current BCB administration, with uncertainty already growing around the board’s future amid continued scrutiny over the election process.
