Former India cricketer and batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has revealed that merit should be the criteria for selecting teams for the upcoming mega event - T20 World Cup and not the age as well. While speaking to the media persons on the sidelines of the Road Safety World T20 Series, the veteran shared: "One thing I would like to clarify here is that it is not just about picking youngsters. It is about picking capable players, you are talking about the Indian cricket team, age should not be criteria."
"It is about what you are able to deliver and that is what matters, not age. If somebody is able to perform and may not be a young cricketer, but if you are able to perform you should be playing for India," he further added.
Sachin Tendulkar is currently playing in the Road Safety World T20 Series where he can be seen in his usual form as well and like older times, he has been taking the home convincingly too.
"Talking about youngsters, if you are able to perform then he rightfully deserves it. But if he is not able to perform, then maybe there are options you can look at. It is just not about age, it is a misconception that you should promote youngsters. I feel we should be picking our best 11. We should be picking our best 14-15 member squad and the best balance is known to the selection committee and it should be left to them," Sachin Tendulkar again added.
As far as Team India's ongoing five-match T20I series against England is concerned, India have bounced back quite well in the last encounter. After having started with a win 3-1 in the four-match Test series, they started with a defeat in the first T20I game. However, they won the next match. They failed to win in the third one but equalled the series in the fourth game and, the final match will be played on March 20 which will decide the winner of the series between India and England as well.
