Mashrafe didn’t trust Gayle

This comes as a shocker, doesn’t it? After all, the big West Indian was the one whose bat helped Mashrafe and his side win the Bangladesh Premier League. However, the keyword is ‘bat’. With the bat, Gayle is demon—and Mashrafe would trust Gayle’s bat with his life.

However, with the ball, he doesn’t really think too highly of the West Indian. In an interview to Prothom Alo, the ODI captain of Bangladesh revealed that the Jamaican was constantly bugging him for an over, but the captain didn’t pay heed to it.

“Gayle told me, ‘there is only another wicket left – why aren’t you giving me the ball, don’t you trust me?’” Mashrafe revealed.

However, it didn’t work as Mashrafe didn’t hand him the ball then and there, saying, “I told him, ‘I won’t give you the ball even in the 20th over’.”

However, he promised to give him the ball on one condition.

“But if more than 36 runs are needed in the last over, then I will give you the ball,” Mashrafe promise Gayle.

In the end, the 34-year-old had to fulfil his promise as the Dhaka franchise needed more than 36 runs in the final over and giving Gayle the ball at that time was risk-free.

While this might be from a humourous aspect from the duo, what can’t be denied is that the Rangpur captain doesn’t trust Gayle with the ball like he does with the bat. The West Indian, however, bowled a wonderful over as he gave away only 2 runs and came very close to taking a wicket.

Not half bad, eh?
