While the coach situation of the Bangladesh cricket team
hasn’t been resolved yet, it seems as though the Tigers are making considerable
changes in the hierarchy. The Bangladesh Board have hired a new video analyst to
help the team better with opposition analysis.
The board has hired Srinivas Chandrashekhar as its video
analyst and he is said to be joining the team before the tri-nation series
begins. The chairman of BCB’s cricket operation, Akram Khan, had earlier
revealed that the team would have an analyst before the tri-nation began.
“A video analyst will be hired before the tri-nation series
begins. Perhaps we will hire someone in a few days.”
Khan also stressed that the previous analyst had left his
job, but was optimistic to find someone of similar quality.
“Our previous analyst left the job, but it doesn’t matter
since there are others of similar qualities.”
The rise in technology has played a massive part in sports,
especially that of analytics. While cricket may not yet be fully indulged in
data analysis, sports like basketball and baseball have separate data analysts
to help them with the knowhows of the game and find the patterns that lead to
victory.
Bangladesh’s attempt to amalgamate analytics with cricket is
a positive sign, something that is bound to help them. It is only a matter of
time now when the BCB understands the importance of a data analyst and hires
more of them to assist the team.
The tri-nation series begins on the 15th of next
month with Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe as the other two teams. The Tigers will also
then engage against the Lankans for a Test series that begins on the 31st
of January and ends on the 12th of February, after which the teams
will lock horns in T20I games on the 15th and 18th of
February.
