Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam has been ruled out of the second Test against Pakistan after suffering a chest injury during the opening match in Mirpur.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed on Thursday that left-handed batter Zakir Hasan has been added to the squad as Shadman’s replacement for the Test, which begins on 16 May at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

According to national team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan, Shadman sustained the injury while attempting a catch during the first Test.

“Shadman took a blow in the chest while taking a catch during the first Test in Mirpur. He has a traumatic contusion of the chest and is in pain. He will not be available for the second Test unfortunately,” Bayjedul said.

Zakir Hasan returns to the national Test squad after a long absence, having last played in the format in November 2024.
