The stadium, initially planned with a boat-shaped design and previously named after Sheikh Hasina, has already undergone a name change following a shift in government.
The project was approved during the previous administration, with the BCB allocated around 37.5 acres of land in Purbachal at a nominal cost to build a new international-standard venue outside Mirpur.
Tamim visited the construction site on April 18 and inspected the entire area, later confirming that discussions will be held with designers and the National Sports Council (NSC) to revise parts of the design.
“Some changes are necessary. We will not make changes just for the sake of it, but certain aspects of the design need to be adjusted,” Tamim said.
“We will discuss with the designers and, if needed, consult others before sitting with the NSC. This project involves significant government investment, so it has to be done properly” he added,
Tamim also revealed plans to import red soil similar to that used at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium to ensure high-quality pitch preparation.
Earlier plans included facilities such as a five-star hotel, swimming pool, gym, pavilion and media center, but the board is now reconsidering parts of that vision. The BCB is also exploring the possibility of incorporating multiple sports at the venue to benefit the broader sporting landscape.
“It’s a large property. Alongside cricket, if we can include other sports, it will be beneficial for the country’s overall sports development,” Tamim said.
