Bangladesh HP head coach Toby Radford said on Thursday that not touring Sri Lanka was a blessing in disguise as he could use Mushfiqur Rahim as example in front of his charges.

Toby began his stint with the just concluded BCB President’s Cup, the 50-over three-team tournament organized by BCB.

BCB took the initiative as part of their resumption plan to restore cricket in the Bangladesh that was halted for nearly six months due to corona pandemic.

Radford was expected to join Bangladesh HP team that was scheduled to tour Sri Lanka along with the national cricket that eventually got postponed.

The English man said that it can be a blessing in disguise as neither touring Sri Lanka would have served their purpose as the condition would have been quite familiar while it allowed him to see the mix of young and experienced cricketers and that helped him to tell his charges how to develop their cricket by following their seniors.

“I think it was a shame that the tour didn’t go ahead. It would have been nice but to be honest, if you are playing in Asia, there’s going to be similar conditions. I don’t think we lost a huge amount on conditions. The board did well to organize the President’s Cup. It was good competition, high-quality cricket for three weeks. It was particularly good about the tournament was the mix of young players with some experienced players. I was able to use Mushfiqur, a world-class international player, in my team-talk. The young players learned how he went about his preparation and how he played. As an experienced coach, I would use him to help them. We wouldn’t have had that in Sri Lanka if the tour had gone ahead,’’ he said.
